For Families

  • Who can join Nucleo?

At our year-round programme in North Kensington, we work with children and young people aged 0-20! You are welcome to join if you already play an instrument, but most of our students arrive as complete beginners. Anyone can join Nucleo who is willing to really commit to their musical learning, which includes consistent regular attendance. Nucleo is an immersive programme, so although our baby classes and sessions for our youngest students only meet once or twice a week, by the time our students are 5 years old they need to be able to commit to at least three sessions a week, and this goes up to four for our older and more advanced students. If you’d like more info, you can get in touch with us at info@thenucleoproject.org, or fill out our expression of interest form to find out about available spaces. https://forms.office.com/r/283BkM2pdz

For our Young Leaders Programme, we are looking for more experienced young musicians who also show commitment to leadership and to community music-making and/or the idea of music for social change. If you are an organisation wishing to recommend students, or a young person who would like to find out more about joining the Young Leaders, please get in touch at info@thenucleoproject.org.

(If you are under 18, please make sure you CC an adult in your email – such as a parent, carer, music teacher or staff member from your school - or we will be unable to reply.)

  • How much does it cost for my child to enrol at Nucleo?

    Nothing! It's free.

  • Is it true that you have music sessions for babies and toddlers?

Yes! Get in touch for more info, or fill out our expression of interest form to find out about available spaces https://forms.office.com/r/283BkM2pdz

  • Where do Nucleo lessons take place?

Our North Kensington programme is currently delivered at two locations, one on Ladbroke Grove and one in West Kilburn. You can get in touch with us for more detailed information - info@thenucleoproject.org.

  • How often does the orchestra rehearse and perform?

In our North Kensington programme, our orchestras rehearse several times a week. Younger / beginner groups perform at least once per term, and older / more advanced groups more frequently. Students also have opportunities to perform as soloists or in smaller ensembles at least once per term. The Young Leaders meet annually during school holidays and rehearse intensively during each residency. The orchestra performs at least once every time it gathers.

  • What access do you have for children with SEND?

At Nucleo we are proud to work with children and young people with SEND, both in our full-time programme in North Kensington and in the Young Leaders Programme. Every student is different, so we create individualised activity and support plans on a case-by-case basis, working with students, teachers and parents to design the provision that will be most beneficial for each young person.

If you are interested in either the Young Leaders Programme or our project in North Kensington for yourself or your child, please get in touch at info@thenucleoproject.org.

(If you are under 18, please make sure you CC an adult in your email – such as a parent, carer, music teacher or staff member from your school - or we will be unable to reply.)

For Volunteers

  • I don’t live in North Kensington. Can I volunteer to help the charity remotely?

Yes! Roles which require office or media skills can often be carried out remotely. Get in touch to find out more about the best fit for your skills - volunteer@thenucleoproject.org. Please note that all volunteers will be subject to the same safeguarding checks.

  • How much time do I need to commit to as a volunteer?

Before being offered a placement volunteers are all required to attend an interview and complete an induction session. The time commitment required then depends on the role. For instance, a Pastoral Assistant Volunteer will typically volunteer for 6hrs a week whereas a Community Fundraising Volunteer may volunteer for specific events. Please email volunteer@thenucleoproject.org to find out more about the roles currently on offer.

  • Do I need to be a musician to volunteer?

No! All that is required is enthusiasm and a belief in the limitless potential of all young people and the power of music and community to transform lives.

For Supporters
